Cyprus competes in Salt Lake City Games
(Data from "Cyprus Mail" and "The Cyprus Weekly")

Winter sports fans all over the world and in Cyprus have been sitting back and enjoying the events unfolding at the Salt Lake City Games in the United States.

Cyprus's only representative at the games is 24-year-old Theodoros Christodoulou, a member of the Troodos Skiing Club.

Christodoulou was yesterday (21st, Thu.) set to compete in two giant slalom events. He has been in Salt Lake City since the 4th February, training with his personal coach, Italian Alain Ardhur Alex. Previously Christodoulou's six-month training with Alex took place mostly in the Austrian and Italian Alps.

Andreas Christodoulou, who heads the Cyprus delegation to Salt Lace City, spoke to the reporters before the events.
"Everything here is fantastic", Christodoulou said, "Security is tight for obvious reasons."
"Theodoros," he went on "is going through an invaluable experience that will help him a great deal in his future career. His preparation was excellent and we are waiting for him to compete."

No doubt the Cyprus skier's chances of distinction at the games are remote: for Cyprus skiing, though, the securing of the 75th position out of 110 athletes (giant slalom) will be considered a success.

President of the Cyprus Skiing Federation Pavlos Michaelides recently joined the team in Salt Lake City. The Cyprus delegation return on the 27th February.
